本作は1970年代後半のジャマイカを舞台に、実在のレゲエ・ミュージシャンたちが本人役で出演した、音楽映画であり、社会記録映画であり、サブカルチャーの証言映像でもある。プロットは、貧しいドラマーが盗まれたバイクを取り戻すという非常にシンプルなものだが、物語の背後に広がるのは、当時のキングストンのストリート、音楽産業の構造、人々の暮らしと階級、そしてDIY的な抵抗文化の息づく現場である。
バファルコス監督がもともとドキュメンタリーとして企画していた本作は、フィクションの形式をとりながらも、登場人物たちが演技というより「生きている」ことが映像から伝わってくる。ジャマイカのカルチャーを体感的に記録したカルチュラル・ドキュメントとしての価値も高い。
